Introduction to Coaching

The Introduction to Coaching (ITC) course provides interested people, who have little or no experience of the sport of track and field, with coaching information and activities. It is an introductory level course designed to give a sound basic knowledge and is particularly appropriate for people coaching very young athletes at the grass roots level.

Level 1, Coaching Course

The Level 1 Coaching Course is directed towards pre-pubescent athletes up to fifteen years of age. The course is designed to be practically orientated and comprises 16 units which covers all events on the Track & Field program. The course is of 16 hours duration and necessitates using one (1) full weekend. Completion of the Basic Course will satisfy all requirements for accreditation as a Level 1 Coach – Basic Course.

Level 2, Coaching Course

The Level 2 course is designed to allow coaches who are currently financial accredited members of ATFCA (i.e. having already completed the Level 1 Basic Course), the opportunity to gain accreditation in their chosen specific event group. Accredited Level 1 coaches have the opportunity to pursue ‘Specialist Options’ in the following groups: Sprints, Hurdles and Relays; Endurance Running and Walking; Jumps; Throws.
